CHAPTER 3: THE TRUTH THEY HID

Richard didn't waste a second.

"The security footage."

Within moments, the ballroom screens displayed the recording.

Every guest watched.

Margaret deliberately shove my daughter.

Margaret dumping food over her head.

My husband walking over...

Not to comfort his child...

But to slap his wife.

The room erupted.

People gasped.

Several guests quietly stood and walked out.

One board member removed his company badge.

Another whispered,

"We cannot be associated with this."

Richard turned toward my husband.

"The investment agreement contains a morality clause."

"You guaranteed that the Whitmore family maintained ethical leadership."

He placed a folder on the table.

"That contract is terminated."

Margaret staggered backward.

"No..."

Richard wasn't finished.

"The charity foundation has also withdrawn its partnership."

Another board member spoke.

"An emergency vote has already begun."

Within minutes...

My husband was suspended as CEO.

Margaret was removed from every charitable board she proudly controlled.

Reporters waiting outside had already received copies of the security footage.

Their perfect reputation collapsed before dessert was even served.

For the first time that evening...

Margaret looked afraid.

She turned toward me.

"I'm...sorry."

I looked at my daughter.

She still had dried gravy in her hair.

She deserved better than a forced apology.

"You aren't sorry for what you did."

"You're sorry everyone finally saw who you really are."

May you like

Margaret lowered her head.

She had no answer.
