Chapter 2 – The Boardroom Reckoning
The silence inside the mansion lasted only a few seconds after Elena walked out.
Then panic took over.
Daniel rushed toward the front door, but two security officers hired by the corporation blocked his path.
"I'm the CEO," he barked.
One of them remained expressionless.
"Not anymore, sir."
Daniel froze.
Outside, Elena stepped into the back seat of the first black SUV. Across from her sat Richard Hayes, the company's chief legal officer. He slid a leather folder across the seat.
"The emergency board meeting begins in eighteen minutes."
She nodded.
"No delays."
Richard hesitated.
"The directors were... surprised when you activated your voting rights."
"They shouldn't be," Elena replied. "They simply forgot who signed every rescue agreement over the last four years."
The convoy pulled away.
Behind them, Daniel stood on the mansion steps watching his world disappear.
Thirty minutes later...
The executive boardroom overlooked the city's skyline.
Every director stood when Elena entered.
Not because they feared her.
Because they respected the woman who had quietly kept the corporation alive while Daniel collected magazine covers and industry awards.
Elena walked to the head of the table.
"The meeting is now in session."
Richard distributed legal documents.
"The controlling shareholder has exercised her authority under Article Seven of the Family Trust."
Every eye shifted toward Daniel.
He looked exhausted.
"You can't remove me over one disagreement with my wife."
Elena calmly corrected him.
"Your wife."
Daniel's face tightened.
She continued.
"You abandoned your fiduciary duties months ago."
Screens around the room illuminated.
Financial statements.
Unauthorized transfers.
Corporate funds spent on luxury vacations.
Private jewelry purchases.
A penthouse purchased for Chloe.
Every transaction carried Daniel's digital approval.
His breathing became uneven.
"This isn't what it looks like."
"It looks exactly like fraud," one director replied.
The chairman slowly removed Daniel's CEO nameplate.
"For the record..."
He pushed it aside.
"...the motion to terminate Daniel Ward as Chief Executive Officer passes unanimously."
Not one hand voted in his favor.
Daniel looked at Elena.
