CHAPTER 4: THE WOMAN THEY UNDERESTIMATED

Three days later.

The former Sterling headquarters displayed a new name.

ESCALANTE INTERNATIONAL.

Inside the executive boardroom, Mariana sat at the head of the table.

The directors unanimously approved her appointment as Chief Executive Officer.

Outside the building, reporters crowded the entrance.

Inside the lobby—

Andrew waited.

He looked nothing like the confident man who had slapped his wife.

His expensive suit was wrinkled.

Dark circles shadowed his eyes.

He hadn't slept.

When Mariana finally stepped into the lobby, he immediately stood.

"Please..."

She stopped.

"I made a terrible mistake."

"I believed lies."

"I believed Brenda."

"I was wrong."

He lowered himself onto one knee.

Every employee watched.

Every camera flashed.

"I'm begging you."

"Forgive me."

Mariana looked at him quietly.

Then she remembered.

"Kneel."

"Confess."

"Crawl out."

His own words.

She met his eyes.

"You once told me to kneel before leaving your house."

"You believed wealth gave you the right to humiliate people."

She stepped closer.

"But here's the difference between us."

"I never needed revenge to prove my worth."

"I only needed the truth."

Security approached.

Andrew reached for her hand.

She stepped away.

"Escort Mr. Sterling outside."

The guards gently led him toward the exit.

He didn't resist.

He knew it was over.

Outside, Brenda was waiting.

The moment she realized there was no fortune left to chase, she quietly walked away without looking back.

Margaret sold her jewelry to pay legal fees.

The mansion was auctioned.

The luxury cars disappeared.

The empire built on arrogance collapsed faster than anyone believed possible.

Months later, Mariana reopened the company under a new mission.

She funded scholarships for struggling students.

Created grants for women starting businesses.

Protected employees who had once feared speaking the truth.

One afternoon, she stood before the glass windows of her office, watching the city below.

Her father joined her.

"No regrets?"

She smiled peacefully.

"None."

Because true wealth was never measured by mansions...

Or luxury cars...

Or billion-dollar companies.

It was measured by character.

May you like

And when everything else was stripped away...

Character was the only fortune that remained.
