CHAPTER 4 — A Different Kind of Legacy

One year later.

Ward Global had become stronger than ever.

Elena refused magazine covers.

She declined television interviews.

Instead...

she quietly launched the Ward Opportunity Foundation.

Its mission was simple.

Provide scholarships and business funding for people whose talent had been ignored because of where they came from.

Exactly as hers had once been.

During the foundation's opening ceremony, a young woman approached Elena.

"I almost gave up."

"Everyone kept telling me I wasn't good enough."

Elena smiled warmly.

"They told me the same thing."

The young woman blinked.

"But you own one of the largest corporations in the country."

Elena looked toward the skyline.

"They judged my last name."

"They never bothered to learn my story."

Across town...

Daniel now worked for a small nonprofit teaching entrepreneurship to teenagers.

The salary was modest.

The office was tiny.

But for the first time in years...

people respected him for what he actually did.

Not for the title on his business card.

He often told his students,

"The worst investment you can ever make..."

"...is believing someone else's success belongs to you."

No one knew he was speaking about himself.

Months later, fate crossed their paths one final time.

At a charity gala.

Daniel saw Elena from across the ballroom.

She was laughing with employees.

Not executives.

Employees.

The people everyone else overlooked.

He considered walking over.

Instead...

he simply raised his glass.

She noticed.

Returned the gesture.

Nothing more.

Nothing less.

Some relationships don't end with hatred.

They end with understanding.

As Elena stepped onto the stage to receive an award for ethical leadership, she looked out at the audience.

Years earlier...

she had believed love meant giving away pieces of herself until someone finally appreciated her.

Now she understood something different.

Real love never requires you to become smaller so someone else can feel taller.

The applause filled the ballroom.

But Elena barely heard it.

Because the loudest sound in her heart was peace.

And that...

May you like

was the one thing no amount of wealth could ever buy.

The End.
