Chapter 2 — The Boardroom Judgment

At exactly midnight, the boardroom doors opened.

Marcus entered with absolute confidence.

He still believed this meeting existed to support him.

Instead...

Every director was already seated.

My father occupied the chairman's seat.

I sat beside him.

Marcus froze.

"What is she doing here?"

No one answered.

He looked around the room.

"Explain this."

Richard Sinclair slid a leather folder across the polished table.

"Read it."

Marcus barely glanced at the first page.

His expression changed instantly.

"This is impossible."

"It can't be."

"It is."

Inside were ownership certificates.

Trust agreements.

Property titles.

Corporate filings.

Every signature.

Every legal document proving one fact.

Ashford Luxury Hospitality had never belonged to Marcus.

Not one hotel.

Not one resort.

Not one dollar of real estate.

Everything belonged to Sinclair Holdings.

Marcus looked at me.

"You lied to me."

I met his eyes.

"No."

"You simply never asked."

His fists tightened.

"I built this company."

"You managed it," my father corrected.

"My daughter built it beside you."

"My family financed it."

"My attorneys protected it."

"And today..."

"We're taking it back."

The board secretary stood.

"Motion to remove Marcus Ashford as Chief Executive Officer."

Hands rose.

One after another.

Unanimously.

Marcus wasn't simply fired.

He lost every executive privilege he had ever enjoyed.

Then security entered.

The same officers who had escorted me out hours earlier.

Their supervisor spoke carefully.

"Mr. Ashford..."

"We've been instructed to escort you from the building."

Marcus stared at them in disbelief.

"You can't be serious."

One guard lowered his eyes.

"I'm sorry, sir."

Those were the exact words they had said to me.

Now they belonged to him.
