The silence behind me shattered the moment the front door closed.
I never looked back.
Outside, twelve black SUVs waited beneath the sweeping entrance of the estate.
My chief legal officer, Arthur Hayes, opened the rear door.
"The board has assembled, Ms. Ward."
I nodded once.
"Let's finish this."
Inside the executive tower, every director was already seated.
The atmosphere was tense.
No one spoke as I entered.

He turned.
I stepped out of the elevator.
Two security officers stood beside me.
Daniel forced a smile.
"Elena."
His confidence had disappeared.
"We should talk."

He lowered his voice.
"I made a mistake."
"No."
I looked him directly in the eyes.
"You made a decision."
He reached for my hand.
I stepped away.
"The board already voted."
His face turned white.
"You can't do this."
"I already did."
Arthur handed Daniel a sealed envelope.
"Termination notice."
Daniel stared at it.
Then at me.
Then back at the envelope.
His entire career had just ended with a single sheet of paper.
Security escorted him toward the exit.
For the first time in his life...
