One year later.
Spring returned to New York.
Sunlight poured through the windows of my new office overlooking the Hudson.

Not because of my family.
Not because of revenge.
Because I had finally accepted credit for the work I had done all along.
NexusCore had recovered.
Employees who had nearly lost everything helped rebuild it with honesty instead of fear.
Dad officially retired that autumn.
On his final day, he handed me the keys to his office.
"I've waited a long time for this."
I laughed.
"So have I."
That evening we walked outside together.
The skyline glowed gold in the setting sun.
"I used to think strength meant enduring anything," I said.
"What do you think now?"
I smiled.
"Strength is knowing when to leave."
He nodded.
"Your mother would be proud."

The wind carried the sounds of the city below.
Busy.
Hopeful.
Alive.
Some people believe justice arrives with sirens.
Others expect it in courtrooms.
Mine arrived with a single phone call.
Not because my father rescued me.
Because that call reminded me who I had been before I let someone convince me I was nothing.
Matthew lost his empire.
I found myself again.
May you like
And in the end...
That was the only victory that ever truly mattered.
