CHAPTER 1 – THE WOMAN THEY NEVER KNEW

No one moved.

Not Brendan.

Not Diane.

Not Jessica.

The head of corporate security stepped into the dining room, followed by six men in dark suits.

Every one of them ignored the Morrison family.

Instead, they walked directly toward me.

The leader stopped a few feet away.

"Good evening, Chairwoman Cassidy."

Then he bowed.

A long, respectful bow.

The room froze.

Jessica blinked.

"I'm sorry... Chairwoman?"

Brendan laughed nervously.

"This is a joke, right?"

No one answered him.

Arthur entered moments later, carrying a black leather portfolio.

His suit was still wrinkled from rushing over.

"I'm sorry it took eleven minutes," he said to me. "The emergency board vote has already been completed."

He handed me the folder.

"Protocol 7 has been activated."

Diane looked from Arthur to me.

"What is this nonsense?"

Arthur finally turned toward her.

"Mrs. Morrison, as of five minutes ago, every executive account connected to the Morrison family has been suspended."

Brendan frowned.

"What?"

"The company has frozen all executive access, pending investigation."

Jessica laughed.

"You can't freeze his job."

Arthur calmly replied,

"I just did."

Brendan stood up.

"I've worked there for eight years!"

Arthur looked at him without emotion.

"No."

"You worked for her."

He pointed directly at me.

Silence swallowed the room.

Arthur continued.

"Ms. Cassidy has been the majority shareholder and anonymous Chairwoman of Morrison Global Holdings for the past six years."

Diane's wine glass slipped from her hand and shattered across the floor.

"No..."

Arthur nodded once.

"Yes."

The woman you called worthless owns every building your family works in.

Every bonus you received...

Every promotion...

Every paycheck...

Was approved by her board.

And today...

She revoked all of it.

May you like

For the first time that evening...

Brendan's face turned white.
