Chapter 2: The First Move

Chapter 2: The First Move

Alexander remained on one knee for several seconds, his fingertips resting lightly against the bruises on Sofia's arm.

No one spoke.

The silence inside my apartment felt heavier than any scream.

Finally, he stood.

"Did you take photographs?" he asked.

I blinked.

"No."

"You will now."

His voice was calm. Too calm.

I grabbed my phone while Alexander carefully documented every bruise, every swollen joint, every cut on Sofia's face. He photographed the torn wedding gown lying across the chair. He even recorded the dried blood on her veil.

"Nothing gets cleaned," he said. "Nothing gets thrown away."

Sofia stared at him.

"Dad... please... they'll come after us."

Alexander looked directly into her eyes.

"They already did."

He reached into his jacket and handed me a business card.

"My attorney."

Another card.

"My security company."

Then another.

"A trauma specialist."

He had planned everything within minutes.

I realized this wasn't simply a father reacting in anger.

This was a man preparing for war.

An hour later, two private security officers arrived outside my apartment.

No one entered without permission.

At sunrise, Alexander drove Sofia to the hospital himself.

Doctors confirmed what we feared.

Three fractured ribs.

A broken wrist.

A concussion.

Dozens of bruises in different stages of swelling.

The emergency physician quietly asked Sofia whether she wanted to report domestic violence.

She hesitated.

Alexander answered first.

"Yes."

Before she could lose her nerve.

The police arrived within the hour.

For the first time, Sofia repeated every detail.

The locked hotel room.

The forty slaps.

The women who held her down.

Javier waiting outside.

The officer's face hardened as he wrote.

Then Alexander placed a thick envelope onto the table.

"What is this?" the detective asked.

"The hotel."

He had already contacted someone overnight.

Security camera footage.

Electronic key-card records.

Lobby surveillance.

Elevator cameras.

Every movement inside the hotel had been preserved.

Javier had lied.

He never left.

The cameras showed him escorting his mother and four women to the honeymoon suite.

They entered together.

Forty-two minutes later, Carmen walked out smiling.

Javier followed.

Not once did he call for help.

Not once did he check on his wife.

The detective slowly closed the folder.

"This changes everything."

Alexander simply nodded.

"No."

"It reveals everything."

That afternoon, Carmen called.

Again.

And again.

Thirty-seven missed calls.

Then the messages began.

"You embarrassed our family."

"Come home immediately."

"This is between women."

"If you involve the police, you'll regret it."

Alexander saved every message.

Every voicemail.

Every threat.

He never replied.

Instead, he made one phone call.

"Freeze every account connected to Sofia."

Within minutes, every joint financial transaction was blocked.

Javier suddenly discovered that money could disappear just as quickly as trust.

The honeymoon was officially over.

The real battle had only begun.
