Chapter 3 — The Camera That Never Lied

Chapter 3 — The Camera That Never Lied
Three days later...
Olivia's lawyer sent a letter.
She claimed I had humiliated her publicly.
She demanded compensation for the canceled wedding.
Then she made one final accusation.
Daniel Harper had invented the entire story.
According to Olivia...
Sophie had hidden during a childish game.
Everything else was fiction.
Michael laughed when he read it.
"She forgot something."
"What?"
"The security system."
I stared at him.
"The estate cameras."
My parents' property had twelve cameras covering nearly every hallway.
Including the staircase.
Within an hour we were sitting inside my father's office reviewing the footage.
At 3:41 p.m...
Olivia walked down the hallway holding Sophie's hand.
She smiled warmly.
Anyone watching would think she was comforting a little girl.
She stopped outside the storage room.
She opened the door.
She bent down.
Said something.
Sophie hesitated.
Olivia gently pushed her inside.
Then...
She looked both directions.
Closed the door.
Locked it.
And calmly walked away.
Not once did she look back.
The timestamp continued.
Fifteen minutes.
Twenty.
Twenty-five.
Thirty.
Sophie's tiny fists appeared beneath the door.
She tried to push it open.
She couldn't.
Then came the muffled crying.
My mother covered her mouth.
Michael muttered one sentence.
"She's finished."
Olivia's attorney never expected the video.
Neither did Olivia.
When her lawyer saw the footage...
He withdrew the demand within twenty-four hours.
But the story wasn't over.
Someone leaked the video online.
Millions watched it.
The comments weren't focused on the canceled wedding.
They focused on one little girl asking through the door...
"Daddy?"
May you like
People everywhere recognized that fear.
And they recognized the father who came running.
