Chapter 3 – The Family Took Her Side… Until Marcus Pressed Play

Three days later the entire family gathered at Marcus's grandfather's home.
Brenda had expected sympathy.
Instead, Marcus connected his laptop to the television.
"No speeches today."
He pressed play.
For forty-five minutes no one spoke.
The room watched Maya struggle alone.
They watched Lily crying with fever.
They watched Brenda shopping online while Maya scrubbed dishes late into the night.
Rachel repeatedly insisted she was "too tired" to help.
When the videos ended...
Marcus's grandfather slowly removed his glasses.
He looked at Brenda.
"Is there anything in those recordings that was edited?"
"No..."
"Is any of it false?"
Brenda lowered her eyes.
"No."
The old man sighed heavily.
"I raised you better than this."
He turned toward Marcus.
"You've protected your wife exactly as a husband should."
Then he faced the rest of the family.
"Anyone who cannot respect that household will no longer be welcome in mine."
