Chapter 2 – Every Lie Has a Timestamp

The recording began without sound.
For several long seconds, no one in the hallway moved.
The only noise came from the faint hum of hospital ventilation and the distant rhythm of medical monitors beyond the operating room doors.
On the screen, four synchronized camera angles displayed the same luxury suite.
Each corner of the room.
Every movement.
Every second.
A digital timestamp glowed across the top.
20:47:13
Jonathan Caldwell folded his arms.
"Don't skip."
Robert Callahan nodded.
"Every second has been preserved."
The footage rolled.
Khloe entered the suite first.
She looked exhausted.
One hand rested protectively over her seven-month pregnancy while she slowly removed the diamond earrings that had been weighing on her all evening.
She smiled weakly to herself.
Finally...
A moment of peace.
Thirty seconds later...
The suite door opened again.
Isabella Rossi stepped inside.
She closed the door behind her.
Quietly.
Deliberately.
Marcus never took his eyes off the screen.
No one spoke.
The footage continued.
Khloe looked surprised.
She asked something.
There was no audio.
But her body language was calm.
Confused.
Not hostile.
Isabella answered.
She smiled.
It was the same smile she wore at charity galas.
Elegant.
Graceful.
Harmless.
Jonathan watched carefully.
"Look at her shoulders."
Marcus frowned.
"They're relaxed."
Jonathan nodded.
"People preparing for self-defense don't relax."
"They prepare."
"They create distance."
"But she's moving closer."
The footage advanced.
The women continued talking.
Khloe pointed politely toward the door.
Clearly asking Isabella to leave.
Instead...
Isabella took another step forward.
Then another.
Closing every inch of space between them.
Marcus clenched his fists.
His knuckles turned white.
20:49:02
Everything changed.
Without warning—
Isabella shoved Khloe with both hands.
Not once.
Twice.
The first push sent Khloe stumbling backward.
The second launched her into the marble table.
Marcus shut his eyes.
Even though he had already seen the aftermath...
Watching it happen was infinitely worse.
The impact looked violent.
Khloe's back slammed against the edge.
Her body folded instantly.
She reached for her stomach before anything else.
Always the baby.
Always.
Robert paused the footage.
"No edits."
"No cuts."
"No missing frames."
Jonathan looked toward Isabella.
"You were saying?"
Her face had turned pale.
"I..."
She struggled to find words.
"That doesn't show everything."
Robert resumed the video.
The crystal champagne glass slid from the table.
It shattered across the marble floor.
Every camera captured it.
Every angle confirmed the same sequence.
Khloe attempted to steady herself.
She wasn't attacking.
She wasn't threatening.
She was trying not to fall.
Then Isabella did something no one expected.
She stepped closer.
Purposefully.
Slowly.
Marcus whispered,
"God..."
The heel of Isabella's designer shoe drove directly into Khloe's side.
The force knocked the pregnant woman completely onto the marble floor.
One camera captured the strike perfectly.
Another showed Khloe curling around her unborn child.
The third recorded Isabella watching her...
Without helping.
Without hesitation.
Without remorse.
Robert froze the frame.
The hallway fell silent.
No one could deny what they had just seen.
Not anymore.
Isabella suddenly laughed.
It was nervous.
Sharp.
Almost desperate.
"This proves nothing."
Everyone turned toward her.
She pointed wildly at the screen.
"It was edited."
Robert blinked.
"What?"
"The video!"
She stepped forward.
"I know technology."
"People fake videos every day."
Marcus stared at her.
"You think someone edited four synchronized security feeds..."
He slowly walked toward her.
"...inside a hospital server..."
"...within twenty minutes?"
She swallowed.
"There are hackers."
Jonathan almost smiled.
"There certainly are."
He looked toward Robert.
"When was this footage secured?"
Robert answered immediately.
"Twenty-one seconds after Mr. Thorne activated Code Black."
"And the server?"
"Disconnected from every outside network."
Jonathan nodded.
"Chain of custody?"
Robert handed him a digital log.
"Recorded."
"Time-stamped."
"Biometrically authenticated."
Jonathan looked back at Isabella.
"Would you like to invent another story?"
She opened her mouth.
Nothing came out.
Meanwhile...
The emergency surgery continued.
Inside Operating Room Seven...
Doctors fought to stabilize both mother and child.
Blood pressure continued falling.
The fetal heartbeat fluctuated.
Every second mattered.
Marcus looked through the observation window.
His reflection stared back at him.
He couldn't help them in there.
But he could make one promise.
No one would ever hurt them again.
Downstairs...
The charity gala came to an abrupt halt.
Phones began vibrating simultaneously across the ballroom.
Executives.
Politicians.
Journalists.
Socialites.
Everyone received the same breaking notification.
Emergency incident involving billionaire Marcus Thorne's pregnant wife at St. Augustine Medical Center.
Confused whispers spread through the room.
"What happened?"
"Was it an accident?"
"I heard she collapsed."
"No..."
Someone lowered their voice.
"I heard another woman was involved."
Within minutes...
Guests quietly left the ballroom.
Television news vans began arriving outside the hospital.
Social media exploded.
#JusticeForKhloe
The hashtag spread faster than anyone expected.
Back upstairs...
Marcus walked directly toward Isabella.
She instinctively backed into the wall.
For the first time...
She looked genuinely frightened.
Not because of prison.
Not because of scandal.
Because Marcus wasn't looking at her with anger anymore.
He was looking at her with complete emotional detachment.
The expression of a man who had erased someone from his life.
"I trusted you."
His voice remained calm.
"My wife welcomed you into our home."
Silence.
"You smiled at our family."
Silence.
"You attended our charity events."
Silence.
"And tonight..."
He looked directly into her eyes.
"...you tried to destroy both my wife and my daughter."
Isabella shook her head violently.
"I never wanted—"
"Stop."
One word.
Nothing more.
She stopped speaking immediately.
Marcus turned toward the waiting officers.
"I want a full criminal investigation."
"I want every message."
"Every phone call."
"Every financial transaction."
"Every employee who helped her."
"If this was planned..."
His eyes returned to Isabella.
"...I want every person involved."
The hallway doors opened.
Three homicide detectives entered alongside two officers from the Major Crimes Unit.
Leading them was Detective Sarah Bennett.
A veteran investigator known for refusing political pressure.
She greeted no one.
She walked straight toward Robert.
"The footage?"
Robert handed over the encrypted evidence case.
She examined the digital seal.
Unbroken.
Verified.
Authenticated.
She nodded once.
"Good."
Then she faced Isabella.
"Miss Rossi..."
"You are now the subject of an attempted homicide investigation involving a pregnant victim."
The color vanished from Isabella's face.
She laughed nervously.
"This is ridiculous."
"It was an argument."
Sarah didn't react.
"Save it for your attorney."
An officer stepped forward.
"Please surrender your phone."
"My phone?"
"Now."
"My lawyer—"
"You'll have one."
The second officer extended an evidence bag.
"And your handbag."
She hesitated.
Sarah's voice became colder.
"If you refuse, we'll obtain a warrant before sunrise."
Isabella slowly handed over both items.
For the first time since entering the hospital...
She realized something terrifying.
The lies that had always protected her...
Had finally run out of time.
Because cameras never forgot.
Servers never panicked.
May you like
And every lie...
Had a timestamp.
