Chapter 5 – Home

Chapter 5 – Home
Six months later...
Snow covered the front yard of their small house.
It wasn't fancy.
The furniture didn't match.
The kitchen was tiny.
But laughter filled every room.
Their newborn daughter slept peacefully in a bassinet near the fireplace.
His wife stood by the window holding a warm mug of tea.
"You know," she said softly, "I used to think I just had to endure everything to keep the family together."
He wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
"A family isn't held together by one person suffering."
She leaned her head against him.
"It's held together by people protecting each other."
The doorbell rang.
Outside stood his father.
Alone.
Holding a small teddy bear for his granddaughter.
"May I come in?"
His son smiled.
"Of course."
Some relationships could be repaired.
Others had to be left behind.
Months later, they learned his mother still refused to admit she'd done anything wrong.
No one argued with her anymore.
Because the people she once controlled had already built happier lives without her.
As the baby stirred and let out a tiny yawn, the young father looked around the warm little home they had created.
That night, he finally understood something simple but life-changing:
Peace is never found by keeping everyone else happy.
