Chapter 5 â The Last Letter

Chapter 5 â The Last Letter
Five years later...
An envelope arrived with no return address.
Inside rested one handwritten page.
It was from Santiago.
His handwriting remained flawless.
His pride did not.
I blamed everyone except myself.
My mother.
My father.
Money.
You.
Prison teaches strange lessons.
The man I hated most...
Was always the one in the mirror.
I don't ask for forgiveness.
I only hope Gabriel never becomes me.
I folded the letter.
Walked outside.
And watched my son race across the garden with his grandfather.
His laughter echoed beneath the afternoon sun.
Strong.
Fearless.
Free.
I placed the letter into the fireplace.
The paper curled into ash.
Some stories deserve remembering.
Others deserve ending.
As the flames disappeared...
Gabriel ran toward me.
"Mama!"
"I won!"
I lifted him into my arms.
"Yes."
He laughed.
"We both did."
The past had tried to define us.
It failed.
Because real power had never belonged to billionaires...
Or family names...
Or wealth.
Real power belonged to the people who found the courage to leave...
To tell the truth...
And to build a future where fear no longer lived.

And that was the only inheritance worth passing on.
The End.
