ChaPter 2 – The Man Who Owned the Building

ChaPter 2 – The Man Who Owned the Building

No one spoke.

The silence inside the ballroom felt heavier than the steel barriers covering every exit.

The billionaire who had attacked me backed away one cautious step.

"What is this?"

His voice no longer carried arrogance.

Only uncertainty.

Around him, guests pounded against the sealed doors.

"They won't open!"

"My phone has no signal!"

"Call the police!"

The panic spread faster than fire.

I simply watched.

Seconds later...

The massive ballroom doors didn't open.

Instead...

An elevator at the center of the room descended from the private executive level.

The soft mechanical hum silenced every voice.

The polished doors slid apart.

Twenty men dressed in identical black suits stepped out in perfect formation.

No weapons drawn.

No raised voices.

Only absolute discipline.

Each wore the silver phoenix emblem of Blackstone Global Security.

Every guest recognized it.

The company protected presidents...

Royal families...

Fortune 500 CEOs.

Their appearance meant only one thing.

Someone infinitely more powerful than everyone in this room had arrived.

The guards split into two lines.

Then he appeared.

A man in his early sixties.

Silver hair.

Perfectly tailored charcoal suit.

Calm gray eyes that carried decades of authority.

He walked slowly across the marble floor.

No one dared interrupt him.

The attacker frowned.

"...Who is that?"

One senator beside him turned pale.

"Oh God..."

"It can't be..."

Another billionaire whispered,

"Richard Ashford..."

The founder of the Ashford Group.

One of the richest men in the world.

A man who almost never appeared in public.

Richard ignored every guest.

Ignored every camera.

Ignored every politician reaching to greet him.

He stopped directly in front of me.

His eyes softened.

Very gently...

He brushed a strand of hair away from my bruised face.

His fingers paused beside the blood on my lip.

The ballroom became completely silent.

Then he spoke.

"My little girl..."

"I'm sorry I was five minutes late."

Every guest stopped breathing.

The attacker stared at me.

Then at Richard.

Then back at me.

"No..."

His lips trembled.

"No..."

Richard slowly turned toward him.

The warmth vanished from his face.

"So..."

"You're the man who laid a hand on my daughter."

No one answered.

No one even breathed.

Because everyone suddenly realized...

They had spent the evening humiliating the only daughter of the man who owned not only the estate—

But nearly half the city itself.
