CHAPTER 4: THE PRICE OF EVERYTHING

Two years later, Richard stood outside a small park in Geneva.
He looked older.
Thinner.
Less certain.
Across the playground, he saw Clara.
And their son.
The little boy laughed as Clara pushed him on a swing.
For a moment, Richard remembered the nursery he never finished.
The baseball games he never attended.
The family he traded for temporary excitement.
Clara noticed him.
She walked over calmly.
Neither angry.
Nor emotional.
Just free.
Richard swallowed hard.
“Can I see him?”
“You can.”
Relief flooded his face.
Then Clara added:
“But only if you earn the right to stay in his life.”
Richard nodded.
Because for once, he knew she was right.
Years later, their son would know the truth.
His mother had saved him.
His father had nearly lost everything.
And the difference between them was simple.
One chose loyalty.
The other chose selfishness.
As Clara walked away holding her son's hand, Richard remained standing alone beneath the autumn trees.
Watching the life he once took for granted.
May you like
The life he could never fully get back.
THE END.
