Chapter 1: The Moment That Stopped the Ballroom

Chapter 1: The Moment That Stopped the Ballroom

The ballroom remained frozen.

Victoria Langford tried to pull her wrist free, but Emma refused to let go.

"Take your hand off me," Victoria hissed.

Emma's heart pounded so hard she could hear it in her ears.

"You were about to hit her."

"And who exactly are you to stop me? A waitress?"

The insult echoed through the silent room.

Emma slowly released Victoria's wrist.

"I don't care who you are," she said quietly. "No one deserves that."

Gasps spread across the guests.

Nobody spoke to Victoria Langford like that.

Especially not hotel staff.

Victoria smiled—a cold, dangerous smile.

"You just ended your career."

She turned toward the hotel's general manager.

"Fire her."

The manager rushed over, pale with panic.

"Emma... please apologize."

Emma looked at the elderly woman beside her.

Isabella's trembling hands rested on the wheels of her chair.

There were tears in her eyes.

Emma shook her head.

"I won't apologize for protecting someone."

Victoria laughed.

"Then enjoy unemployment."

Just as the manager opened his mouth to dismiss her, a deep voice cut through the silence.

"No one is firing her."

The crowd slowly stepped aside.

Vincent Moretti walked forward.

Every conversation disappeared.

Every security guard straightened.

Victoria's confident smile faded for the first time.

Vincent stopped beside his mother's wheelchair.

"Mother."

"I'm fine," Isabella whispered.

He gently checked her face before turning toward Victoria.

"Did you raise your hand against my mother?"

Victoria forced a smile.

"It was simply a misunderstanding."

Vincent looked at Emma.

"Was it?"

Emma hesitated.

She had no idea who he truly was.

"I only saw someone trying to slap an elderly woman."

Vincent nodded once.

"Thank you."

Two words.

Yet they changed the atmosphere instantly.

He turned to the hotel manager.

"If this woman loses her job tonight..."

His voice remained calm.

"...your hotel loses every Moretti event forever."

Silence.

The manager swallowed hard.

May you like

Emma realized she had just protected someone whose name made billionaires nervous.

And Vincent Moretti had just protected her.
