CHAPTER 4 — A HOME BUILT BY LOVE

Six months later...

The DeLuca mansion looked different.

Children's drawings covered the refrigerator.

Laughter echoed through the halls once filled with silence.

Leo no longer screamed.

He raced through the house with paint on his hands and joy on his face.

His nightmares slowly disappeared.

Camryn's mother completed her cancer treatment.

Every medical bill had been paid anonymously.

Only later did she discover Matteo had quietly taken care of everything.

One spring afternoon, Matteo stood beside the Hudson watching Leo chase pigeons across the garden.

Camryn joined him.

"You changed him," Matteo said.

She smiled.

"No."

"He always had love inside him."

"He just needed someone who wasn't afraid to stay."

Matteo reached into his jacket.

Instead of a weapon...

He held a small velvet box.

"I spent my life earning fear."

"But you've shown me something far more powerful."

He opened the box.

Inside was a simple diamond ring.

"Camryn Jenkins..."

"You saved my son."

"You saved me."

"Will you let us spend the rest of our lives proving that your kindness was never wasted?"

Tears filled her eyes.

She nodded.

"Yes."

A year later, friends and family gathered for a quiet wedding overlooking the Hudson River.

There were no threats.

No violence.

No fear.

Only laughter.

When the ceremony ended, Leo ran between them, grabbing both of their hands.

He looked up at Camryn with the brightest smile.

"I love you, Mom."

This time...

She answered without hesitation.

"I love you too, sweetheart."

Sometimes the strongest people are not those who rule through fear.

Sometimes they are the ones who kneel beside a broken child...

Stay...

May you like

And teach him that love can still be trusted.

THE END
