CHAPTER 2 — The Woman They Chose to Destroy

CHAPTER 2 — The Woman They Chose to Destroy
No one spoke.
The only sound was the endless ringing of phones throughout the garden.
One by one, the board members opened the email that had just arrived.
Attached to it were three files.
A video.
An audio recording.
And a signed financial report.
Julian's father snatched a phone from one of the executives.
His face turned gray before anyone else could read the contents.
"This... this isn't possible."
Clara calmly removed the mud-stained veil from her hair.
"It is."
The largest investor stepped forward.
"The recording is authentic."
He looked directly at Julian.
"You discussed staging today's humiliation to pressure your bride into signing over her inheritance after the ceremony."
Gasps spread across the guests.
Julian shook his head wildly.
"That's out of context!"
Clara pressed another button on the recorder.
Julian's own voice echoed through the speakers.
"Push her into the mud. Once everyone believes she's unstable and emotional, she'll sign anything just to save the marriage."
Another voice followed.
His mother's.
"After we get the property, we'll file for annulment within a month."
Silence.
Absolute silence.
Julian's mother staggered backward.
"You planted that recorder!"
"No," Clara answered.
"You invited me to dinner."
She looked around the garden.
"You simply forgot that arrogance makes people careless."
One of the investors slowly removed his wedding gift envelope.
"I don't do business with people who celebrate cruelty."
Others quietly followed.
Millions of dollars in future contracts disappeared before the reception had even begun.
Julian finally realized this had never been about revenge.
It was exposure.
Everything his family had built was collapsing because of one afternoon they believed no one would question.
Then several black SUVs rolled into the entrance.
Every guest turned.
A group of attorneys stepped out first.
Behind them came officers carrying sealed evidence boxes.
Julian whispered,
"Who are they?"
May you like
Clara smiled.
"The people who have been waiting for today longer than I have."
