Chapter 15 - THE HUSBAND WHO CHOSE HER

Six months later, Emma stood beneath the same white lights of the Chelsea art gallery.

The room was crowded.

The champagne flowed.

Music filled the air.

And this time, she wasn't afraid.

She wore a simple ivory dress.

No designer label.

No attempt to impress anyone.

Just Emma.

Maya stood beside her.

“You know what's funny?”

Emma smiled.

“What?”

“You used to hate this place.”

“I still do.”

Maya laughed.

“Then why come?”

Emma looked across the room.

“Because Dante asked me.”

Maya followed her gaze.

Dante stood near the entrance.

Black suit.

Steel watch.

That same impossible calm.

But now, when he looked at Emma, there was no distance in his eyes.

Only warmth.

He crossed the room.

“You're late.”

Emma raised an eyebrow.

“By three minutes.”

“I noticed.”

“You're impossible.”

“I know.”

He offered his hand.

She took it.

Maya smiled.

“I'm going to leave before this becomes unbearably romantic.”

Emma laughed.

When Maya walked away, Dante leaned closer.

“You look beautiful.”

Emma smiled.

“You're supposed to say I look stronger.”

“You look both.”

She looked at him.

“Remember this place?”

“Yes.”

“David?”

“Yes.”

“Vanessa?”

“Yes.”

Emma looked around.

“I thought that night was the worst thing that could happen to me.”

Dante shook his head.

“It was the beginning.”

“The beginning of what?”

He took her hand.

“Us.”

Emma smiled.

Then she noticed something.

A small velvet box in his hand.

Her smile disappeared.

“Dante.”

He opened it.

Inside was a new wedding ring.

Not expensive.

Not extravagant.

Simple platinum.

Emma stared.

“What is this?”

“The marriage we should have had.”

Her eyes filled.

“You're proposing?”

“Yes.”

“But we're already married.”

“Legally.”

He paused.

“I want you to choose me again.”

Emma looked at him.

“Why?”

“Because the first time, you chose security.”

He took her hand.

“This time, I want you to choose me.”

Emma's tears finally fell.

“You already know my answer.”

“I want to hear it.”

She smiled.

“Yes.”

Dante slid the ring onto her finger.

Applause erupted around them.

Emma looked up.

Everyone was watching.

For once, she didn't care.

Dante kissed her.

And the man who had once been a secret husband became the husband everyone knew existed.

A year later, the Rossi trust was fully transferred.

Emma refused to become another distant billionaire heir.

Instead, she created a foundation in her father's name.

It funded nurses.

Hospitals.

Women escaping controlling relationships.

Children who needed a second chance.

Isabella became involved in the foundation too.

Their relationship wasn't perfect.

Some wounds never became invisible.

But they learned to live around them.

David Whitmore received a prison sentence for fraud, extortion, stalking, and conspiracy.

Vanessa disappeared from Emma's life.

Richard Vale testified against several former associates.

Daniel Hale rebuilt his father's company under strict legal oversight.

And Lucian Moretti?

He was never found.

Some people whispered that he had fled overseas.

Others believed he was still somewhere in the shadows.

Emma stopped listening.

Because she had finally learned something her younger self never understood.

Not every mystery deserved to be solved.

Not every person deserved another chance.

And not every ending required revenge.

Sometimes the greatest victory was simply becoming someone the past could no longer control.

On a quiet Sunday morning, Emma stood barefoot in the kitchen.

Dante entered behind her.

“You're stealing my coffee.”

Emma looked over her shoulder.

“Our coffee.”

He smiled.

“That's not what you said six months ago.”

“Six months ago we still had separate apartments.”

“We also had separate bedrooms.”

Emma smiled.

“Not anymore.”

Dante wrapped his arms around her waist.

She leaned back against him.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then Emma looked at the ring on her finger.

“Do you ever regret it?”

“What?”

“Marrying me.”

Dante turned her toward him.

“Never.”

“Even though I ruined your peaceful life?”

“You improved it.”

“Even though I ask too many questions?”

“I married a woman who asks questions.”

“Even though I don't obey you?”

His smile widened.

“That was one of my favorite things about you.”

Emma laughed.

Then her expression softened.

“I used to think love meant proving I was worth staying for.”

Dante touched her cheek.

“It doesn't.”

“What does it mean?”

“Choosing each other.”

“Every day?”

“Every day.”

Emma smiled.

“Then choose me.”

“I already did.”

He kissed her forehead.

“I'm just lucky you chose me back.”

Emma rested her head against his chest.

Outside, Manhattan woke slowly.

Cars moved through the streets.

People hurried toward work.

The city continued exactly as it always had.

But Emma's life was different.

The woman David had once called difficult had become powerful.

The woman he had taught to doubt herself had learned to trust her own voice.

The woman he had mocked for being alone had found a husband who never needed her to become smaller.

And the man nobody believed existed had become the one person she knew she could never imagine living without.

There had been secrets.

There had been lies.

There had been blood between two powerful families.

There had been a contract designed to keep two people apart while forcing them together.

But in the end, the contract hadn't decided their future.

They had.

Emma looked at Dante.

“Do you know what the strangest part is?”

“What?”

“When I first told David I was married, I was trying to prove him wrong.”

Dante waited.

“Now?”

Emma smiled.

“Now I don't care what he thinks.”

Dante kissed her.

“Good.”

She laughed.

“That's all?”

“Yes.”

“Good?”

“Yes.”

He held her closer.

“Because the only opinion about this marriage that matters…”

He looked into her eyes.

“…is yours.”

Emma smiled.

And for the first time, she understood that the greatest love story of her life hadn't begun when Dante Moretti signed a contract.

It had begun the moment he stopped treating her like something that needed to be protected—

and started treating her like someone who deserved to choose.

The husband no one believed existed had never been imaginary.

The marriage had never been fake.

The contract had simply been the beginning.

May you like

And the ending belonged to them.

THE END
