Chapter 3: Home Again

Two days later...

Every second inside the laboratory waiting room stretched into an eternity.

Emily couldn't sit still.

Lucky stayed close beside her.

For the first time, he no longer looked frightened.

Only confused.

The laboratory technician walked toward them carrying a sealed envelope.

She handed it to the detective.

The room became silent.

He opened it.

Read the first page.

Then looked directly at Emily.

His voice softened.

"The probability of maternity is..."

He paused.

"99.9999 percent."

Emily collapsed into tears.

"My baby..."

Lucky stared at her.

"My... mom?"

She nodded, unable to speak.

He took one uncertain step.

Then another.

Finally, he threw himself into her arms.

She held him tighter than she had ever held anyone in her life.

Neither of them cared who was watching.

Years of pain dissolved into tears neither could stop.

Weeks later, investigators uncovered the truth.

Leo had been kidnapped by a trafficking ring operating across several cities.

During a police raid years earlier, the criminals had abandoned him.

Too young to remember his identity, he had drifted between shelters and the streets, eventually becoming just another forgotten child called Lucky.

Every person responsible was arrested.

Justice came slowly.

But it came.

Months later, Leo stood once again in the backyard of the home where he had taken his first steps.

Emily watched him laugh as he chased the family dog across the grass.

For the first time in three long years, the sound no longer existed only in her memories.

It filled the air around her.

She finally understood that hope is never truly lost.

The End.
