Within forty-eight hours, investigators uncovered everything.
The missing necklace had never been stolen.
Security footage revealed another employee secretly placing it inside Clara's cart under orders from Marcus's longtime chief financial officer.
The CFO had worked for the Ashford family for twenty-five years.
He had inherited the conspiracy from Marcus's late uncle and continued hiding the truth to protect millions of dollars obtained through fraud.
He was arrested before leaving the country.
Every charge against Clara was dismissed.
A week later, Marcus invited every guest from the gala back to the ballroom.
The same stage where Clara had been publicly humiliated was transformed into something entirely different.
Marcus stepped onto the platform.
"I accused an innocent woman without asking for the truth."
He turned toward Clara.

The guests stood as Marcus embraced the niece he had never known existed.
