Chapter 2 – The Truth Hidden Behind Closed Doors

The gala ended early.

By midnight, Logan had ordered every member of the household staff to remain at the Mercer estate.

No one was leaving.

Especially Marina.

He needed answers.

They came sooner than he expected.

The elderly chef spoke first.

Then the gardener.

Then two former nannies joined through video calls.

Their stories matched.

Vanessa never struck Noah where bruises could easily be seen.

She punished silence with isolation.

Locked him inside dark rooms.

Forced him to sit alone for hours.

Threatened that his father would abandon him if he ever told anyone.

Each witness had reported concerns.

Each complaint had mysteriously disappeared.

Logan discovered why.

Vanessa had intercepted every report before it reached him.

She controlled the staff.

His schedule.

Even his email.

His entire household had become a prison he never noticed.

Finally, Logan turned toward Marina.

"Why did he call you Mommy?"

She lowered her eyes.

"Because every night after everyone slept, I found him crying in the hallway."

She paused.

"I never told him I was his mother."

"I simply held him until he stopped shaking."

"I read him bedtime stories."

"I made him hot chocolate when he couldn't sleep."

"I reminded him that kind people still existed."

Tears filled Logan's eyes.

His son hadn't mistaken Marina for his real mother.

He had given the title to the only person who had ever made him feel safe.

At dawn, Logan walked into his study.

He called his attorneys.

Then the police.

Then child protective investigators.

By sunrise...
