Chapter 2 – Truth Comes to Light
Julia knelt beside Mia once more.
She gently wiped gravy from her daughter's cheek with a clean napkin.
"You never have to apologize for someone else's cruelty," she whispered.
Mia nodded through quiet tears.
Richard signaled to the security supervisor.
"Please display the ballroom security footage."
The reception projector flickered to life.
Within seconds, every television screen inside the ballroom showed the recording.
There was no debate.
No confusion.
No missing angle.
Everyone watched Mia accidentally brush Margaret's plate.
Then they watched Margaret deliberately shove an eight-year-old child.
Then throw food at her.
Then David strike his own wife.
The footage ended.
No one moved.
Rachel, the bride, slowly walked toward Julia.
"I'm so sorry," she whispered.
"I should have stopped this."
"You couldn't have," Julia replied gently.
David stepped forward.
"Julia... I made a mistake."
She looked at him without anger.
"You made a choice."
Margaret suddenly pointed toward the screen.
"That video doesn't show everything!"
Richard calmly answered.
"It shows enough."
Another guest stood.
Then another.
One by one, relatives who had remained silent all evening quietly walked away from Margaret.
Even David's younger sister shook her head.
"I can't defend this anymore."
Margaret looked around desperately.
No one came to her side.
