Chapter 2 – When the Truth Walked Into the Boardroom

By eight o'clock the next morning...
Blackwell Holdings was in chaos.
Television news vans crowded outside headquarters.
Employees whispered in every hallway.
Andrew stormed into the executive boardroom expecting applause.
Instead...
Silence greeted him.
Every board member avoided his eyes.
At the far end of the table sat Mariana.
She wore a tailored navy suit.
No diamonds.
No expensive jewelry.
Only quiet confidence.
The bruise on her cheek remained visible.
She hadn't covered it.
She wanted everyone to see it.
Andrew stopped walking.
"...What are you doing here?"
The chairman slowly stood.
"Mr. Blackwell..."
"I believe you've misunderstood your position."
Andrew frowned.
"What?"
The chairman slid a thick folder toward him.
"Mrs. Mariana Escalante owns sixty-eight percent of every voting share through Escalante Capital."
Andrew laughed.
"No."
"That's impossible."
"I built this company."
One by one...
The executives looked away.
Finally, the oldest board member spoke.
"No, Andrew."
"She built it."
"When investors rejected your expansion plan..."
"She convinced them."
"When payroll couldn't be met..."
"She quietly funded it."
"When regulators investigated accounting discrepancies..."
"She resolved them."
"We all knew."
"You were the only one who didn't."
Andrew felt the room spin.
Brenda burst through the doors.
"Andrew!"
"They're taking everything!"
Security stopped her before she reached him.
Mariana calmly looked toward the guards.
"Escort Miss Brenda Lawson outside."
"She has never been employed here."
Brenda screamed.
"You can't do this!"
Mariana answered softly.
"I already have."
The guards escorted Brenda away as cameras flashed through the glass walls.
Then Margaret entered, pale and furious.
She pointed directly at Mariana.
"You manipulated my son!"
Mariana stood.
"No."
"I loved your son."
"I manipulated bankruptcy."
"I manipulated creditors."
"I manipulated impossible odds."
"The only thing I never manipulated..."
"...was my heart."
Silence consumed the room.
She pressed a button on the conference table.
A massive screen illuminated.
Security footage appeared.
Andrew embracing Brenda inside the mansion.
Private hotel records.
Hidden financial transfers.
Fake invoices.
Insurance fraud.
And finally—
The truth about the emerald necklace.
The recording showed Brenda removing it from Margaret's jewelry cabinet before secretly placing it inside her own handbag.
The room froze.
Margaret collapsed into her chair.
Brenda's face drained of color.
Andrew whispered...
"My God..."
May you like
Mariana looked directly into his eyes.
"You slapped the wrong woman."
