CHAPTER 2 – THE CAMERA THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

The moment the room emptied, I crawled out from under the bed.

Every movement felt like knives tearing through my body.

Emily wrapped one arm around my waist.

"We have to hurry."

I slammed my hand onto the emergency call button.

Alarms echoed down the corridor.

Within seconds, three nurses rushed inside.

"What happened?"

"They're trying to take my baby!"

The nurses exchanged confused looks.

Linda appeared behind them instantly.

"There she is," she said calmly. "The anesthesia has made her delirious."

"I'm not delirious!" I screamed.

"Check the security camera."

Everyone froze.

Linda's smile disappeared.

"What camera?"

I pointed toward the ceiling.

"The one in this room."

The head nurse frowned.

"I didn't know this room had surveillance."

"It does," another nurse answered quietly.

Hospital security arrived less than five minutes later.

The footage was retrieved.

The room fell silent.

Everyone watched Linda hand an envelope to the doctor.

Then they heard every word.

"She won't remember."

"The signature doesn't matter."

"Bring me the newborn."

The doctor's face turned white.

Linda stood motionless.

"There must be some mistake."

"There isn't," the security officer replied.

Two police officers entered the room moments later.

Linda finally panicked.

"You don't understand!"

"Oh," I whispered.

"I understand perfectly."

But one question still remained.

Why would she risk everything... for my son?
