Chapter 1: The Empire He Never Built

Chapter 1: The Empire He Never Built

Marcus stood frozen in the center of the presidential suite.

"This has to be a mistake."

No one answered.

The general manager, Daniel, slowly removed the hotel master key from his belt and placed it on the marble table.

"I'm sorry, sir."

Marcus frowned.

"Sorry for what?"

"My employment agreement is with Castle Hospitality Group."

Daniel swallowed.

"And as of three minutes ago... so is everyone else's."

Marcus laughed again, but it sounded forced.

"I've been running this hotel for seven years."

"You were managing it."

Daniel chose his words carefully.

"You never owned it."

Marcus's smile disappeared.

"What are you talking about?"

Daniel opened a folder that had just arrived from corporate headquarters.

Inside was a stack of signed documents.

Every page carried the same signature.

Richard Bennett.

Isabella's father.

Marcus stared at the papers.

His mind refused to process what he was seeing.

"No..."

Daniel nodded quietly.

"When you married Ms. Bennett, Mr. Bennett allowed you to become CEO."

"It was never a transfer of ownership."

"It was a trust."

"And today..."

"The trust was revoked."

Marcus's phone rang.

It was the bank.

His corporate accounts had been frozen pending ownership verification.

Another call.

His executive credit cards had been canceled.

Another.

His company vehicle had already been reassigned.

Within ten minutes...

Marcus had gone from acting owner...

...to unemployed.

Outside the hotel...

Isabella looked back only once.

Not at Marcus.

At the building.

For eight years she had protected the man inside.

She had convinced investors to stay.

Negotiated impossible contracts.

Saved him from disasters he never even knew existed.

He always believed success belonged to him.
