Chapter 2 – The Name That Changed Everything

The room remained frozen.
No one moved.
No one spoke.
The security supervisor slowly lowered his tablet after reviewing the surveillance footage.
He turned toward Evelyn.
"Mrs. Vance... would you like to explain why you entered this room carrying adoption documents?"
Evelyn forced a smile.
"It's a misunderstanding."
"No," Julia whispered. "It's not."
Her voice was weak, but every word carried through the room.
"They planned this before I gave birth."
The nurses exchanged uneasy glances.
Julia looked toward her husband.
Daniel still refused to face her.
His silence confirmed everything.
Security requested everyone's identification.
The moment Julia handed over hers, the supervisor's expression changed.
He stared at the name.
Then back at Julia.
"Your full name is Julia Harper Vance?"
She nodded.
"My father is Richard Harper."
The room fell silent again.
Even Daniel looked up.
Richard Harper.
Chief Judge of the State Court.
One of the most respected judges in the country.
Julia had never used her maiden name after marriage.
She had hidden her family's influence because she wanted to build a normal life—not one protected by power.
Evelyn's face slowly lost its color.
"You... you're his daughter?"
Julia answered quietly.
"I wanted a family that loved me for who I am."
She looked directly at Daniel.
"I guess I never had one."
Just then, the hospital director rushed into the room.
He had already received the security report.
After watching the surveillance footage himself, he immediately ordered Evelyn and Daniel to remain inside until police officers arrived.
