PART 2: THE PRIVATE JET

: THE PRIVATE JET

Emma stared at the message until the words blurred together.

Your grandfather kept his promise.

Her hands trembled.

That was impossible.

Henry Whitmore had been declared dead fifteen years ago after his yacht vanished during a storm near the Mediterranean coast. No body had ever been recovered, but eventually everyone accepted the inevitable.

Including Emma.

The phone vibrated again.

The aircraft will depart in forty-five minutes. Please do not inform Andrew Weston.

A chill ran down her spine.

"Ma'am?" the driver asked. "Are you alright?"

Emma looked up.

"Take me to the private terminal."

The driver nodded.

As Manhattan disappeared behind sheets of rain, Emma's mind raced.

Who knew about her grandfather?

Who had arranged a private jet?

And why tonight?

When she arrived at the terminal, a woman in a navy suit was already waiting.

"Mrs. Weston?"

Emma nodded cautiously.

The woman handed her a leather folder.

Inside was a boarding pass.

Destination:

Monaco.

Emma's breath caught.

Monaco had been her grandfather's favorite place in the world.

Before she could ask questions, the woman spoke.

"Mr. Whitmore instructed us to deliver this when you were ready."

Emma froze.

"Mr. Whitmore?"

The woman simply smiled.

"Safe travels."

Minutes later, Emma sat alone inside the luxurious jet.

As the engines roared to life, she opened the folder.

Inside was a handwritten letter.

The handwriting was unmistakable.

Her grandfather's.

If you are reading this, Emma, then the time has finally come.

I knew one day your heart would be broken by a man who valued power more than love.

When that day arrived, you were never meant to stay and suffer.

You were meant to rise.

Tears filled Emma's eyes.

Then she turned the page.

And discovered a secret that would change her life forever.

Her grandfather hadn't left her a small inheritance.

May you like

He had left her an empire.

Far larger than Andrew Weston could ever imagine.
