Three months later...
Boston looked exactly the way Estelle remembered.
Small apartment.
Secondhand furniture.
Bills stacked neatly on the kitchen table.
Life had returned to normal.
Or so she thought.
A black luxury car stopped outside her building.
Alexander stepped out.
Beside him walked Sophie, smiling brightly, holding the same stuffed rabbit Estelle had placed in her hands on the plane.
The little girl ran first.
"Miss Estelle!"
She wrapped her tiny arms around Estelle's waist.
Alexander smiled for what felt like the first genuine time in years.
"I came to ask you something."
Estelle laughed softly.
"If this is another trip to Paris, I'm checking the boarding pass first."
He chuckled.
"No."
"I'd like to offer you a position."
"As Sophie's full-time caregiver?"
She hesitated.
"I don't think I belong in your world."
Alexander looked at his daughter.
Then back at Estelle.
"My world nearly fell apart because everyone around me valued money."
"You were the only person who valued my child."
There was nothing more to say.
Estelle accepted.
Over the following years, Sophie grew into a healthy, joyful little girl.
Alexander learned that success meant very little without people he could truly trust.
Estelle discovered that family is not always the one you're born into.
