Chapter 3: A Kingdom for My Son

Chapter 3: A Kingdom for My Son

"No… that’s impossible! You are a liar, a psychopath!" Margaret shrieked frantically, lunging forward to claw at me, but she was immediately pinned down by two security guards.

Right at that moment, the wail of police sirens echoed from outside the mansion. Red and blue lights flashed through the large glass windows, illuminating the pathetic humiliation of those who had once thought they were the predators.

"You are under arrest for financial fraud, large-scale asset misappropriation, and intentional defamation of character," the police chief entered, coldly reading the arrest warrants and snapping handcuffs onto the wrists of Ethan and Vanessa.

Vanessa wept hysterically, her expensive mermaid gown dragging across the dirty floor. She tried to scramble forward, grabbing at the hem of my trousers. "Claire, I’m sorry! They forced me to do it… I’m your best friend, please forgive me just this once!"

I calmly stepped back, pulled out a tissue to wipe away the dirt where her hand had touched me, and said indifferently, "Don’t make this any uglier than it already is, Vanessa. Have you forgotten that you are still wearing my pearl earrings?"

Ethan looked up at me, his eyes filled with belated regret, begging for a shred of mercy. "Claire… after all, I am the father of the child… please, think of our past affection…"

"You are not worthy," I said, staring straight into his panicked eyes, emphasizing every word. "On the day you threw me out into the thunderstorm, you executed your own right to be a father."

The criminals were escorted away one by one amidst the gossip and pointing of the city’s entire high society. The Vales' assets were completely frozen pending investigation. The mansion was also seized to be returned to the rightful Hart family estate.

One year later.

On the windy rooftop of the Hart Memorial International Hospital, the setting sun cast a golden hue over the horizon. I stood there, cradling my chubby, adorable one-year-old son in my arms. He had bright, intelligent eyes and a proud crescent-shaped birthmark under his neck—the ultimate symbol of truth, love, and justice.

Dr. Samuel walked up beside me, looking at the child with a warm gaze, and smiled. "Claire, the new charity foundation project named after your son has cleared all legal procedures. You have done exceptionally well, both as an outstanding Chief Executive Officer and as a resilient mother."

"Thank you, Doctor. If it wasn't for you that day…" I said, growing emotional.

"No, it was your own resilience and intellect that saved yourself and this entire family," he interrupted gently.

I looked down at the city below as the evening lights began to glow, my heart finally experiencing a profound sense of peace. The days of enduring humiliation, the freezing winter nights spent alone cleaning rented floors, the heartbreaking pain at every red light… all of it had now receded deep into the past.

I leaned down and kissed my son softly on his forehead. From the ashes of betrayal and cruelty, I had built a grand, unshakeable kingdom with my own two hands—for myself, and for my son.
