CHAPTER 2: THE DAUGHTER THEY NEVER RECOGNIZED

No one moved.
No one even breathed.
The steel barriers had transformed the glittering ballroom into a fortress.
A prison.
My attacker forced a laugh, but the sound cracked halfway through.
"You think locking us in changes anything?"
Before I could answer, dozens of black-suited security officers poured into the ballroom.
Not ordinary guards.
Former military.
Every movement was precise.
Every weapon remained holstered, yet every guest understood exactly who controlled the room now.
They walked past the billionaires.
Past the politicians.
Past every powerful guest.
Then stopped in front of me.
The commander lowered his head.
"Miss Evelyn."
"We have secured the estate."
Every face turned toward me.
Miss... Evelyn?
The man who had attacked me frowned.
"What is this?"
The commander looked directly at him.
"You are under investigation for assault, unlawful imprisonment, and attempted extortion."
His smile disappeared.
"You can't arrest me."
"My father owns half this city."
I shook my head.
"No."
"You only inherited money."
"You never understood who built the ground beneath your feet."
At that moment, the enormous ballroom doors behind the security team opened one final time.
An elderly man entered.
Silver-haired.
Perfectly dressed.
No introduction was necessary.
Everyone recognized him instantly.
The founder of the country's largest investment empire.
The man magazines called...
"The Invisible King."
Every billionaire in the room stood.
Every politician straightened.
My attacker turned pale.
"N-No..."
He looked at me.
Then at the old man.
His lips trembled.
The old man walked directly to me.
His eyes softened.
"You should have called sooner."
He gently brushed the blood from my cheek.
May you like
"My daughter."
The ballroom erupted into stunned silence.
