Chapter 2: The Truth Beneath the Photograph

Lily’s father laughed once—sharp, broken.

“That’s insane.”

But his eyes betrayed him. He couldn’t look at Ethan anymore.

The woman reached into her bag and pulled out a second photograph.

Hospital records. Stamped documents. Old, yellowed files.

“I tried to stop it,” she said. “But I was too late. He made sure the records were changed. One child registered. One erased.”

Lily stepped back instinctively.

“My sister…” Ethan whispered.

The woman nodded slowly.

“You weren’t supposed to know yet.”

Lily’s father finally snapped.

“You have no proof.”

But his voice cracked on the last word.

Because he remembered.

A deal.
