CHAPTER 3: THE PLACE WHERE TRUTHS ARE BURIED

They followed her at dawn.

The girl walked ahead without looking back, as if she already knew they would come.

The road left the town behind.
Then the fields.
Then everything familiar.

Finally, she stopped in front of an abandoned facility—half hidden by overgrown trees and rusted gates.

The father froze.

“This place…” he whispered.

The girl nodded.

“They brought them here.”

Inside, the air smelled like dust and old antiseptic.

Rooms lined with rusted beds.
Faded charts still pinned to walls.
Names scratched out and rewritten.

The mother walked slowly, trembling, until she saw it.

Two files.

Two photographs.

Her sons.

Alive dates that went beyond the day they were “declared dead.”

Her knees buckled.

“They never died,” she whispered.

Behind her, the girl spoke quietly:

“They only made you believe they did.”

And then—

A sound from deeper inside the building.

A door creaking open.

Footsteps.

The father turned first.

And what stepped out of the shadows made the air leave the room.

Two boys.

Older now.

Alive.

Watching.

Waiting.

And in that moment, seven years of mourning shattered completely—

May you like

into something that had been a lie all along.

THE END.
