Judge Allows Trump, Co-Defendants To Pursue Millions In Fani Willis Legal Fees

Fani Willis, the embattled District Attorney of Fulton County, ran into another legal setback this week after a judge rejected her attempt to step into ongoing litigation over attorney fee reimbursements tied to her now-dismissed election case against Donald Trump and several co-defendants.

Judge Scott McAfee ruled that efforts to recover nearly $17 million in legal fees can continue, following the collapse of the high-profile prosecution last year. The decision effectively keeps alive claims from Trump and others seeking compensation for the costs they incurred during the case.

Back in August 2023, Trump and 18 others were indicted in Georgia over allegations they attempted to overturn the state’s 2020 election results, which had been won by Joe Biden. However, the case was dismissed in November, opening the door for defendants to pursue reimbursement.
