DemM Files Impeachment Articles Against President Trump

U.S. Representative John Larson has introduced articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, accusing him of war crimes and abuses of presidential authority. The resolution, submitted on April 6, has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee for review.

The document claims that Trump has “repeatedly overstepped congressional war powers” and engaged in actions described as murder, war crimes, and piracy. It argues that such conduct violates his duties as president and undermines the constitutional system, posing harm to the American public.

Despite the strong language, the effort is not expected to move forward in a House controlled by Republicans. According to the Congressional Record, the resolution has not progressed beyond its initial referral to committee.

White House spokesperson Davis Ingle dismissed the move, labeling it “pathetic.” He added that Democrats have been discussing impeachment since before Trump officially took office.

The proposal comes amid rising tensions involving Iran. Larson referenced recent remarks by the president, including a social media warning that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran refuses a deal.

Larson said the push for impeachment is intended to remove Trump from office, arguing that the administration’s actions are putting American lives at risk. He stated that Trump has “gone far beyond” the threshold for removal, pointing to what he described as an illegal war with Iran that has impacted both lives and economic conditions in the U.S.

In a separate statement, Larson urged Congress to uphold constitutional limits on presidential war powers. He emphasized that Article I requires congressional approval for acts of war and warned against allowing any leader to act above the Constitution.

Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy called for invoking the 25th Amendment, which provides a mechanism to remove a president deemed unfit for office. Larson supported that idea, encouraging the Cabinet to consider it.

Other lawmakers have made similar attempts in 2025, including Representatives Al Green and Shri Thanedar, who also introduced impeachment measures.

Political analyst Scott McLean noted that such efforts are often driven by pressure from party supporters, suggesting that grassroots demands frequently influence these actions.

Trump, who was impeached twice during his first term but acquitted by the Senate both times, would face similar obstacles again. Any successful removal would require conviction in the Senate.

Larson, who has represented his district since 1999, is currently facing primary challengers, including former Hartford mayor Luke Bronin. Bronin expressed support for the impeachment effort, calling for Trump’s removal.
